about

Max Utech is a licensed architect based in Paris, Vienna and Berlin, working in the fields of urbanism, architecture and art.

As practitioner, researcher and educator, he works across scales on un/built structures and design strategies that empower spaces towards a transformative, caring and enabling environment.

He has taught at the Research Departments of Housing and Design (2020-2024) and Urban Design (2017-2020) at TU Wien and has been guest reviewer at the AA London, ENSA Paris Belleville, ESA Paris, ENSA Versailles and Politecnico di Milano, among others.

Max Utech was awarded both the Schütte-Lihotzky (2021) and Hans-Hollein (2024) grants by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Art and Culture. He has been a resident at Cité internationale des arts in Paris, at ZK/U - Centre for Art and Urbanistics in Berlin and was a fellow of LINA - the European Architecture Platform for Emerging Practitioners.

Together with Bernadette Krejs he is founder of Palace of Un/Learning - an artistic-activist intervention that is exploring counter-hegemonic design strategies and experimental pedagogies for a queer-feminist spatial practice. They collaborated with Fundació Mies van der Rohe Barcelona, Oslo Architecture Triennale, Irish Architecture Foundation Dublin, Design Academy Eindhoven, Viper Gallery, UMPRUM Prague and Archfondas Vilnius. In 2025 they will curate an exhibition at DAZ (German Architecture Center Berlin) about their own and accomplices' work.

Since 2023 he is part of UHO, an architecture studio based in Paris, aiming to maximize the use of space while minimizing financial and ecological costs.
